Although I’m relatively young at 23 to be targeting big carp, it’s been a passion for the last 10 years. This whole time I’ve very lucky to have a dad who fishes and supports my angling addiction. He spent hours, days and even years teaching me the ins and outs of Carp fishing. From the age of 12/13 years old I’ve been able to fish nights on my own at my local Club water. This taught me at an early age that catching Big Carp is about dedication and a little luck.
That’s where my obsession of catching Big Carp, or as well call it bc, bc, bc started I suppose. I still remember that feeling I got when my first target fish went in the net. To this day that feeling has never left me. Pic. Cut Tail at 38lb the fish that started it all.
This Fish tormented and avoided me for about 2 to 3 years. Always coming out in the next swim to where I was fishing. My Dad even caught it in the next swim to me and the lakes first 40+ plus fish. I was gutted as I only let him in the next swim because he’d just had a shoulder operation. what a poacher!
With effort come reward and all came good in the end. I think that’s what I love the most about carp fishing is the journey to catching a target fish. The memories made, story’s told and funny moments you can share afterwards. The Friends you make along the way are all part of this carp fishing adventure. To me, these are often just as important as catching the fish.
Since that Capture I seem to be going to lakes knowing what I want for them, when the target is achieved, I can move on. More recently after catching my target the Half Lin form Vinnetrow. I realised I needed that next challenge, big buzz and to push my craft.
With every challenge and success, it’s time to move on, time to find the next goal. With me living in Chichester my fishing has been local recently. I’ve got a ticket for mighty Carthagena main lake that starts March 21st, so buzzing for that. I have fished Carthagena before on Brooke lake, but I was only about 13 at the time. So, I have a little knowledge of the venue and what to expect. I’m not saying just yet what my target is yet, but it is special. With lockdown restrictions in place this just adds to the challenge, so hopefully you’ll see me with my target soon. Pic. Dad with Cut Tail at 40 plus.
